  • Meredith Detwiler: Women's Ministry Director, West Hollywood, California

Before I began life coaching with Emily, I was just stuck.  I kind of knew what my  life purpose was, but it wasn't specific, and I certainly wasn't focused on it -- especially since most of my time and attention had been going to my first child for the last year and a half.  My family is a good chunk of my life purpose, but I knew there was more and needed help in defining the specifics and working toward them.

Calling Emily was the best thing I could have done!   She helped me discover  my gifts and talents, define goals, and challenged me to work towards them.  She also helped me think of and do things I had never thought of.   She is amazing!   She gently pushed me further than I would have pushed myself.  She was always inspiring and encouraging.  Now I am no longer stuck!  I am moving one day at a time towards fulfilling the purpose God has given me and that Emily helped me discover.   I now have a specific direction instead of spinning my wheels.   Emily's wisdom, insight, encouragement and thinking outside the box have been invaluable.

Anyone who needs some help (and we all do) in reaching their highest potential or wants more out of life, should call Emily.   She is so much fun!

  • Trisha Straus: attorney, Granger, Indiana:

I sought the advice and a life coaching relationship because I was at a crossroads in my professional career.  I had worked all my academic life to become an attorney.  I expended countless hours and thousands of dollars to pursue and accomplish that goal.  Having become licensed in 2002 I thought my work was over and that I could now sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor.  The opposite, in fact, soon became my reality.  I found myself struggling daily to understand why I wanted to enter such an adversarial field where accomplishing truth and good was often too costly for those who really needed it.  I tried to accomplish my own personal goals of making a difference in the lives of my clients by pursuing different areas of law, only to find the same sad reality.  I eventually left the legal field and stayed home to raise my children.

With all of my children nearing school age I have felt drawn to return to the workforce to achieve my personal goals of working with people to make a positive difference in their lives; returning to the legal field, however, was not what I wanted to do.  But, I was not sure what I wanted to do.  This is where my life coach, Emily, came in.

I was searching for answers to my questions and without warning her services were presented to me.  I feel so grateful for the offering as I believe it is always better when at a crossroads to talk with people who have an objective opinion of your decisions.  Family and friends who supported me along the way only saw me now as an attorney.  Emily, however, saw me as the unique individual sitting before her presently.

My coaching experience with Emily really began like I was sitting down with an old friend.  I didn’t feel like I was being analyzed as an objective subject.  She spoke to me like a friend, but with purpose to find out what I was really feeling.  As the session began, her questions were very open -- allowing me to really speak my heart and mind, and even allowing me to come to some very poignant observations on my own that I hadn’t yet reached in my own personal thoughts.  As the session progressed, I saw a very concise direction to her questions, which really explored the options for me.

I think what I most appreciated about my coaching with Emily is that even before we worked on a recommended plan of action, she took a moment to tell me what she thought of me personally.  She applauded so many things that I was already doing in my own life to reach my personal goals that I hadn’t seen.  She made me feel very comfortable with the fact that it was OK to feel confused as to where to progress in my life and actually pointed out that I was in fact more focused on things than I had let myself believe.  I think that moment of praise and appreciation made me feel so worthy that had she not gone any further I would’ve felt so much accomplishment from our time together.  She didn’t, however, stop there.  Presenting the final portion of the coaching relationship, Emily through my own words helped me lay out a course of action to validate a new path for my life.

Being a few months out from my last session with Emily I am so much more appreciative of my coaching relationship with her.  I have followed through on the recommended course of action and feel very confident in my next professional plans.  I feel continuously validated in my new course of action because the plan we prepared has allowed me to check and continuously recheck my path to ensure that I am going where I want to go and not where people have always expected me to go.  Additionally, I take the confidence and pride in myself throughout each step as I keep Emily’s words of support and encouragement with me.  I have felt extremely challenged by the plan of action I created with her and feel as though it has truly given me back my sense of purpose that I seemed to lose over the years.

I cannot ever say enough the amount of respect and gratitude I have for Emily and for the services she has provided to me and will forever be indebted to her for the spark she gave back to my life.

Thank you Emily for providing this relationship for myself and the others out there like me who aren’t as lucky as you to have yet reached our own personal goals and levels of accomplishments!
